The internet has changed our lives, and it's changed some lives more than others...Isn’t the internet wonderful? What amazing things it’s done for our lives, it’s made going to the shops in the rain pretty much obsolete now the worlds biggest shopping centre is on all of our doorsteps. It’s managed to bankrupt most record shops because everything you could ever want is there at a click of the button without the need to put up shelves to keep all the extra CD cases. It’s even managed to bring the cinema into our living rooms. It’s completely revolutionised the way we live our lives to the point that they are almost unrecognisable to how they would have been only 15 years ago.

Yes, it’s true, the internet is here and there’s not a lot of people who could live without it now. Some because it’s opened up a whole new industry where they make their livings, some because not going to the supermarket saves them a couple of hours a week. There are, though, some people who’s lives the internet has changed in a way that normal humans like us cannot possibly comprehend.

We all love spending a little time on Youtube watching people fall over, watching cats do stupid things, cats do cute things, cats do other things and watching music videos. Some people though, they have a lot of money and when they see something they like on youtube, they don’t just click like, they buy it.

And that’s what’s happened to quite a few lucky folks. They thought they could belt out a tune or two, uploaded their efforts to Youtube and the next thing they know, the rich and famous are kicking their doors down to get their signatures on a record contract. The most famous example of this is when Usher’s label did the door-kicking and Justin Bieber was on the other side. The rest is pretty much history in the making.

Lana Del Rey uploaded her video of Video Games to Youtube and look where that ended up, on every radio station and iPod in the world. There are countless other examples that we’ll list in a second but before we do, next time you’re online and browsing ebay or doing your weekly shop, why not take a minute to turn your webcam on and belt out a couple of tunes? You never know, your Tesco delivery might arrive at the same time as Rihanna, holding a record contract and getting ready to organize your first world tour. Worth a shot?

1.	Mr Bieber before he was famous.

2.	Miss Del Rey, the one that we all know and love.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cE6wxDqdOV0&ob=av2e

3.	We might never have heard of Esmee Denters if Justin Timberlake didn’t have access to the internet. Now we do and here she is singing alongside the man who signed her!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bO6wG1hNZJw

4.	Greyson Chance was just playing piano at his school recital when Ellen DeGeneres saw him, invited her to play on her show and now he isn’t the school music geek anymore. He’s halfway to superstar.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bxDlC7YV5is

5.	Chantelle Redman is just an ordinary girl from the north of England. Well, she was until her Dad secretly filmed her singing and posted it on Youtube. Now she’s signed a deal with Global Enterprise and who knows where she’ll end up? This internet thing is a bit clever isn’t it!

From One Stage to Another

The We SIng blog muses on Rihanna's first big screen appearance in new movie Battleship. All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players: they have their exits and entrances; and one man in his time plays many parts. Now I’m not 100% sure but I think Shakespeare might have been referring to Rihanna’s appearance in her first film Battleship when he wrote that. After all, singing and dancing on stage singing can’t be all that different from acting on a slightly different stage now can it? It’s all just an act, I’m sure that the Rihanna you see on stage performing isn’t the same Rihanna that you’d see if you went round to her house on a Wednesday morning for a cup of tea, it would surely be a much less raunchy affair, otherwise she’s just a bit odd.

A person who can amass a legion of followers for their on stage personality clearly knows what they’re doing so why shouldn’t that talent be transferable to the world of acting? Footballers (see Vinny Jones) obviously don’t have that talent and should probably stay away from Hollywood but pop stars are built for it, it’s the next logical step isn’t it?

Take one look at Rihanna’s IMDB page and you’ll see she’s already filming her next film The End Of The World so it would seem that she’s quite taken to the new role. However, she wasn’t the first person to make this leap, not by a long way. Most of these singers have won many more fans and critical acclaim for their performances so it seems the path has been laid for her astronomical success, and We Sing wish her all the best, if it goes well we might even have a go ourselves and change our name to We Act. We’ll let you know how that goes!

But while you’re waiting for us to tread the boards and become the new pin ups of Hollywood, take a look at some of the others who’ve managed to skip from recording studio to film set and make your own minds up about where you think their real talents lie!

1.	Surely the king of the singers who’ve made the move to the big screen? I for one think he did a great job, not too sure about the outfit though, seriously Dave?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ViftZTfRSt8

2.	Sting was quite the musician but his foray into the acting world has been, varied, shall we say? He was cool in Quadrophenia, cool in Lock Stock but utterly disturbing in Dune. That was the film where he wore outfits dodgier than Bowie in the last clip. What is it with the outfits?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoPKajvq3gE

3.	King of cool, king of the stage, king of music all probably but he was a pretty good actor too! May I introduce, Mr Frank Sinatra.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LBDhoUZgsDo

4.	Kylie was an actress first, in Neighbours as Charlene, then she became the queen of pop, here she tries her hand at acting again, as the little green fairy. Or is it just a CGI version of her stage show, just shrunk a little?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YOcZon_R43g

5.	While compiling this list I almost forgot about this guy. Not that he hasn’t done many films, he’s done loads, it’s the fact that his films far outweigh his music career, which was pretty cool in itself. All rise for this list’s true winner. Mr Will Smith.

I Was A Celebrity

This week's blog examines celebrity comebacks...I’ve always thought that that programme with Ant and Dec in the jungle and the testicles on a plate should have been called “I Was A Celebrity, Please Can I Be One Again Please, I’ll Eat Anything, Honest?” But maybe that is why I don’t have a job in television. I’m sure that’s not the only reason but it’s a pretty good start if you ask me. You probably wouldn’t though because you’d be scared of getting an even stupider answer.

Speaking of stupid, I do think it’s a pretty stupid show but millions disagree with me, among them are some pretty big stars so it’s probably me that’s wrong. The latest star to disagree with me on the subject of reality television is one time Girl Aloud, Nadine Coyle who is set to join the Big Brother house.

Now, years ago the only way for an artist to make an impact was to make an amazing record and tour the hell out of it to as many audiences as possible. Making a comeback this way was almost impossible, once you’d fallen out of favour with the public you weren’t going to sell out arenas again and your career was pretty much over. These days though they have so many options and reality television seems to be the firm favourite. Get yourself in the public eye again, be funny or do something scandalous and release a record as soon as it’s over and BOOM, you’re back.

Whether Nadine’s trip into the 24 hour exposure of Big Brother will help her to climb above Cheryl is yet to be seen but can she take heart from a few who have tried in the past. Let’s have a look at them and see what she’s getting herself into shall we?

1.	The obvious choice, Peter Andre. He entered the jungle as that guy who never wears a shirt and sang that song about a mysterious girl. A couple of weeks later, he’s marrying a topless model and has made more TV shows about his life that I can count on one hand. He does seem like a nice bloke though and he’s not with the crazy lady anymore so I for one wish him all the best. He did however leave us with this which I’m not sure I can ever forgive him for...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5jySx1ArMg

2.	It’s not quite reality TV in the same way as Big Brother but Nadine’s old friend Cheryl managed to use her position as an X Factor judge to win over a nation to the point where the papers were calling her the nation’s sweetheart. Not a bad bit of exposure for a woman who was previously called awful names in the press and was accused of a racist assault. It wasn’t quite a comeback but oh my was it a step up. Here’s a funny video for you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xNsRR5LRHTk

3.	It’s yet to be seen how well Tom Jones’ appearance as a judge on The Voice will serve him, but he was a legend in his day and still has a cult following. I don’t really have a point to make on this but I’ll make any excuse to put a link to this song up. Sorry.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGs5Js7FVHo

4.	We could write about 3 separate blogs about this one but it’s definitely an interesting one. Chantelle wasn’t a celebrity singer when she walked in to the Celebrity Big Brother house but she did walk out with one on her arm. The fact that we haven’t heard much from The Ordinary Boy, Preston since then might prove it was the opposite of a comeback, so Nadine, stay away from other musicians, it might backfire on you!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KL1XvmpMW7w&feature=fvst

5.	The best Nadine can hope for on this little jaunt of hers is that she can do what the kings did. By kings, I’m obviously referring to Take That, obviously. Who else would it be? Gary Barlow has bossed it as the new judge on X Factor and Mark Owen, if you remember, won Celebrity Big Brother in 2002. Robbie also made an X Factor cameo and seemed to love it so we’re just waiting on Howard to join the screen gang after Howard acted in a crime thriller which aired on Channel 4. Ok say it’s not all reality TV and it helps if you have an army of fans waiting for you to reunite but if I have any advice for you Nadine, it’s enjoy Big Brother and then join Take That. Sorry, that’s awful advice, ignore me.

[Blog] TWEET THIS!

A long time ago, way before we had the internet one of my older sister’s friends decided she quite liked the look of England footballer Chris Waddle. To look at him now you wonder what she could have been thinking but that’s for an entirely different article! So what she did was she grabbed a pen, a piece of paper, an envelope and a stamp and she wrote him a letter. Dear Chris, I love your flowing locks of hair and think you look really good in those shorts that seem to be a bit too tight for you (it was the 80’s after all), is sort of how I guess the words to this love letter went, but that’s beside the point. About 2 weeks later she was the most excited girl in the world because he’d replied and had signed off with two kisses, not just one, but 2! Wasn’t she lucky.

Fast forward to today, and in the time it would take to sit down and pour out your undying love for an 80’s footballer with pen and paper, you could’ve tweeted the 100 celebrities you love the most directly and depending on what you were saying (basically, as long as you didn’t sound like a stalker or a maniac) you might have got replies from all of them too.

It’s the digital age. Fans and artists are now, metaphorically speaking, sitting right next to each other and are in direct contact with the opinions and feelings of their audience on their latest, single, album, outfit and comments. While this could be a dangerous thing for the careers of artists these days, many know exactly how to mobilise their fan base and ultimately get them to do all of their PR for them achieving a level of coverage that would’ve cost them millions in the past, without lifting more than a finger to hit a button that says ‘tweet.’

I can’t remember a day in the recent past when Bieber or Justin, or Belieber wasn’t one of the top 10 most used words at any one time on Twitter. More recently One Direction have joined him on the list as hordes and hordes of excitable teenagers hang on their every word and eagerly anticipate the next tweet from their favourite musician. It’s a crazy world they live in, but they’re in the limelight and at least they’ll never get lonely with the millions of people they have following them. Let’s just hope for their sakes that Twitter doesn’t learn to talk any time soon as the noise that would make, they might have to spend all their earnings on some very, very expensive ear plugs!

So with all of that said, let’s look at the Top Of The Twitter Pops...

1.	At number 1 with 23.1 million of her ‘Little Monsters’ following her it’s Lady Gaga.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qrO4YZeyl0I&ob=av2e

2.	Close at number 2 with 20.4 million ‘Beliebers’ it’s the sensation known as Justin Bieber.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kffacxfA7G4&ob=av2e

3.	Everyone’s favourite California Gurl, Katy Perry, isn’t far behind at number 3 with 18 million followers. Not bad at all Katy!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGJuMBdaqIw

4.	She might feel like the only girl in the world but she’s got 17.3 million other people right behind her, watch out Rhianna.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pa14VNsdSYM

5.	Hit you one more time you say Britney? You might not want to ask 15.7 million people that at the same time, it might hurt!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-u5WLJ9Yk4

and as a bonus...

6.	Chris Waddle with a massive 57 followers. You’ll see why he’s not so popular if you click the link! He’s the one on the right, he should have stuck to football I think?

[Blog] NICKI MINAJ VS LADY GAGA.

The world of music has seen rivalries come and go for as long as it’s been around. There are the famous ones with Blur vs Oasis and Tupac vs Notorious B.I.G. and there are so many more with Courtney Love hating Dave Grohl and The Beatles vs The Rolling Stones to name just a few.

Today’s music world is no different. It goes without saying that when you get a whole load of famous people with very large yet delicate egos in the same place not everything will be fine and dandy.

The latest fued to hit the gossip magazines is the thoroughly outspoken Nicki Minaj speaking out against Lady Gaga. It was after quite a few people have suggested that there are a fair few similarities between the two ladies that Ms Minaj went on the offensive, “What are the similarities?... Wigs?” So not too happy with the comparison then?

But no matter what she says I think we can all see a few from where we’re standing. She’s already mentioned the wigs but surely the biggest giveaway is the clothes they wear. Or should that be costumes? I’ve always wondered how far you have to push a look for it to change from an outfit into a costume, but I think that one look at Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj is all it takes to realise that they’re going as far out of their way as possible to shock with their clothing.

The music they play is the one thing that can’t be said to be similar, with one being a rap star and the other the new queen of pop, so it’s clear to see one reason why Nicki is so “irked” to use her own words about the comparison. But surely being compared to possibly the most successful artist of this generation cannot be a bad thing?

Perhaps she wants to be the only person at the party wearing a Christmas tree and to be fair to her, with some of the dresses they wear, there just isn’t a room big enough for both of them, literally.

1.	Nicki Minaj performing at the Grammies.

2.	Lady Gaga performing an appropriately titled song to describe the relationship.

3.	Some more feuding musicians for you.

4.	http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r8OipmKFDeM

5.	And perhaps the most famous feud of them all.

[Blog] ONE DIRECTION HIT THE STATES!

Before the seventh series of the X Factor One Direction didn’t exist, they were just 5 boys waiting for their big break. After a couple of rounds of auditions, some tears, some disappointment and false messages of failure, their fairy godfather Simon Cowell arrived and saved their days.

They were all placed together to form a brand new mini version of Westlife, and their dream began. They got through to the final but they only managed to finish third behind Rebecca Ferguson and the eventual winner Matt Cardle. But any of us who now our onions know that the X Factor winner doesn’t always have the last laugh.

One Direction are clearly the winners in the long run, their first album, Up All Night might have only have debuted at number 2 in the UK album charts but who cares, it debuted in the US in pole position, and Simon Cowell knows that that is where the real money is.

The only British band to have achieved this feat before them is, um, well no one. They are the first and only British music group to hold this title making them, technically, better than The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and basically everyone who went before them.

One Direction’s lead heart throb, Harry, claimed that they haven’t broken America yet, they have a lot more work to do, so the claims that they are the new Beatles isn’t going to their heads just yet. Paul McCartney also got involved and said he didn’t think they were the next Beatles because “it suddenly puts a lot of pressure on them to be just that, Oasis were the next Beatles once if you remember.” So Sir Paul isn’t giving up his legacy just yet it would seem. But the number one album, the hoards of screaming girls singing their names and the matching outfits might say different?

And Sir Paul’s son has just said that he’d love to start a group with the son’s of the other Beatles so Harry, Liam, Zayn, Louis and Niall might really have the new Beatles breathing down their necks in a race for the top of the charts any minute now. Enjoy it while you can boys, you might just have a fight on your hands soon, but something tells me, you’re going to be absolutely fine. The top is going to be yours for a while yet...

1.	One Direction, the lady killers, are formed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5UQD61Tg3E

2.	Their final performance. They might not have won but I think we could see the only way was up from here.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LR0FzQYWYQ

3.	Their first single, I think they look like they’re having the time of their lives because that’s exactly what’s happening!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QJO3ROT-A4E&ob=av2e

4.	The latest single. One thing clearly come after another for these guys.

[Blog] IS SUMMER HERE?

Is it? The sun is out, the coats are off and everyone has swapped their cups of coffee for cocktails with umbrellas in them. Summer must be here! The way you can tell is that all the shops you go in are blaring out The Beach Boys and you can’t listen to those songs in the rain can you? It just wouldn’t be right at all.

You always here the radio DJ’s talking about their “soundtrack to the summer” but you never hear of a soundtrack to the winter do you? We Brits are in love with the sun, probably because it’s like the first person you ever had a crush on, you see them now and again and fall madly in love with them but you can’t have them to enjoy all the time. It’s just never enough. It’s the curse of living on an island too far north of the equator. We have to deal with it.

And how should we deal with it? The only way we know how, turn that stereo up and blast a few of the most summery songs you’ve ever heard out extremely loud and extremely often. Hopefully the soundtrack you choose will be so good, the sun wont want to set for fear of missing the next banger on the playlist.

Let’s all pick our favourites now, crack it up to 11 and see if we can’t show that sun exactly what it’s missing by leaving us these shores for most of the year!

1.	The classic of all summer classics. I’m pretty sure you can get a tan by just listening to this one!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TCeD_6Y3GQc

2.	Here’s some facts about whistling. People only whistle when they’re happy, people whistling makes people who aren’t whistling happy and want to whistle themselves. People whistle more in the summer. I may have made all of that up but it sounds true to me, what I do know is true is that this song has whistling in it and it makes me happy.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=51V1VMkuyx0

3.	Another reason why we all love the summer! Schools Out!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qga5eONXU_4

4.	One of the classic summer stories, here being sung, for some unknown reason, by Bruce Willis. Enjoy..?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2zk56DDjGc

5.	This song makes me want to go on the best date of my life. It says everything about the summer that there is to be said on the subject.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvUQcnfwUUM

Enjoy the sun while it lasts, you’ll regret it when the clouds come back if you don’t!
