[Blog] THE BRIT’S ARE BACK!

Thu, January 19, 2012

It’s that time of year again, the nominees for this year’s BRIT Awards have been announced and it would seem that this year is destined to be Ed Sheeran’s. He has bagged himself nominations in a whooping four categories and is in the running to take home British breakthrough act, British single, British male solo artist and British album of the year.

It might not all go his way though, with fellow singer-songwriters Adele going head to head with Ed in the race for the best British single and album awards.

Adele nabbed herself three nominations this year, alongside a fellow previous winner of the Critics Choice award, Jessie J, and they will be fighting it out for the British female solo artist prize.

Emeli Sandée will be taking home the Critics Choice award this year, but she is also up against Ed in the British Breakthrough act category. The former medical student has already reached the No 2 spot with her debut single and 2012 promises to be even better for this Scottish songstress.

The Mercury prize winning PJ Harvey has been nominated for the British Album of the year award for her critically acclaimed album ‘Let England Shake’. Alongside her in the nominations are Coldplay, Adele, Ed and the glorious Florence & The Machine.

Aloe Blacc and Bon Iver lead the overseas contingent, with two nominations in the International male solo artist and International breakthrough act categories. New mum Beyoncé will battle it out for the International female artist award with Bjork, Feist, Lady Gaga and Rihanna.

The show, which takes place at the O2 next month, will feature performances from some of the nominees, including Adele, Bruno Mars and Coldplay, as well as BRIT legend Noel Gallagher and his High Flying Birds and Blur, who will be taking home the Outstanding Contribution to Music prize. Damon and the boys will close the show with their first public performance since 2009.
