It's Christmas!

It’s Christmas and from a young age we are all taught some important life lessons about this time of year. For example, it’s better to give than to receive and it’s all about sharing. So that’s the part we’re going to concentrate on today to get ourselves in the Christmas spirit, sharing.

In a pop sense the best form of sharing is when 2 egos decide to share the limelight for the good of the song. We are of course talking about the collaboration. They’ve been going on for years, 2 people singing round a camp fire with an acoustic guitar is technically a collaboration, occurring to bring people together, to pass the time and to make people feel happier. At the other end of the scale though are those collaborations which are on such a huge scale that it’s not just the egos on show that blow minds, it’s the production costs too.

A perfect example of this is the recent(ish) combination of probably the 2 biggest hitters on the planet. I am of course talking about Jay-Z and Kanye West. Not only are they the two of the biggest name on the planet right now, they also sampled the song of Otis Redding so surely that’s 3 of the world’s biggest names?! As soon as it was announced you could tell it was going to be huge, and as the YouTube video was loading the anticipation was too. They didn’t disappoint at all. It was exactly what you expected, complete with the fast cars, expensive clothes and plenty of models to top it all off.

Here’s another duo who are absolutely huge but they definitely lack the glitz and the glamour of their hip hop counterparts. The most obvious omission is any production value whatsoever! I mean, the set is definitely shiny but I’m not sure it’s the kind of shine that Jay-Z or Kanye would be satisfied with if someone had suggested it to them for the previous video. Despite this, the results are still epic and they definitely look like they’re having a good time. Stripped down legends singing an legendary song definitely works!

And here are the ladies showing that they aren’t about to get shown up any time soon by a bunch of guys. The won the Grammy award for best collaboration for this, and it definitely deserved it! It’s not just the song either, this list of names could be a list for the top 10 in the charts, the make up and costumes are insane and the film was a box office smash. What can these girls not do?

I was going to pick a favourite for you all to enjoy and the decision took about 6 seconds. There is only one contender for this award, especially at Christmas. So grab a glass of mulled wine, put your feet up by the fire, put your slippers on and prepare to get in the Christmas spirit with the world’s best collaboration, ever.

Merry Christmas from WeSing, and these guys...
