I think we all agree January is rubbish.

It’s cold, wet, grey, windy, Christmas is over, we’re all back to work and the next thing to look forward to is Valentine’s Day and we all know how rubbish that is. Could it be any worse? Well, I’m going to try and go against all the odds and make and attempt, hopefully not a futile one, to add the tiniest amount of cheer to this miserable time of year. It can’t all be bad can it? Let’s have a look...

I had a quick look at what happy things January has brought the world in the past and the first thing that came up was Marilyn Manson was born, that’s not going to brighten up anyone’s day right now is it, so perhaps January is as bleak as we all feared? Must look harder, there must be something!

Bingo! It appears that January has brought the world some fun, some smiles and some great music over the years. I’m sure it’s not quite as much as the warmer months but I’m just glad that January isn’t just capable of bringing us Mr Manson and has shown is does have a little bit of warmth running through its cold dark heart.

And if anything is going to get the blood pumping through that cold dark heart, it’s this man, he celebrates his birthday every January and he was the first name to pop up that showed me the glimmer of hope we’re all hanging on to right now! The song title of this next one may well describe what the weather outside is attempting to do to our houses, our bodies and our will to live but January brought us the guitarist from this band and in turn allowed this scene to come into being. Apparently, not everything in January is an ugly grey mess either. I’m learning a lot today. It managed to produce a pretty voice and a pretty face too while we’re praising it for something, and here is that voice, and that face, singing what may be quite an appropriate message that could come straight from the month itself, maybe..?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwvBeHbDL9Q

This brought the feeling back to my cold numb toes when I realised that January was capable of producing something that is so beautiful but at the same time so insane, it seems that the month also has a sense of humour. Either that or it’s just plain insane. The lyrics are enough to warm the soul and the video is, well, it’s got 6ft bunny rabbits and sunbeams, what’s not to love? The final video this week was going to be celebrating the fact that Alex Turner, the brains behind the Arctic Monkeys, was born in this month but then I saw something. It was something that made my mind up for me, and hopefully for you too, that January isn’t so bad. In fact it’s given us quite a lot over the years. Yes, it might be cold, wet, dreary and seem so utterly depressing but wait for this, it gave us The King. Yes ladies and gentleman, Elvis was born in January.
