[Blog] POWER TO THE WORLD - SPICE UP YOUR LIFE!
Fri, December 02, 2011Power to the Girls!
Go on the Spice Girls! Britain’s first all girl band singing about how women wanted to be treated to get the most out of their lives.
When they were trying to find a record label they’d group together, get a meeting and run into the board room - there would be no hand shaking and polite hellos, they’d just jump on the chairs and tables and start singing.
In contrast to this we had Girls Aloud who were a little more demure, Sugababes who were more edgy and Atomic Kitten who were... well. They weren’t around THAT long to be honest. Destiny’s Child took the world by storm but ended with the girls going on to be fab solo artists.
Even the Pussycat Dolls have gone quiet and they absolutely owned the stage for every one of their performances with amazing styling and dance moves.
Solo artists seem to be having a hay day at the moments with their unique voices carrying over the airways. At this moment in time the only girl band in the charts is The Saturdays and they’ve never had a #1 hit although they’ve had some great little other movers for the dance floor.
So what about Little Mix - Tulisa’s little muffins, winning X-Factor this year? They’re cool, eclectic, well styled and let’s face it - at least they can actually sing. As Gary Barlow keeps affirming when he asks them to strip it back a bit and show off their incredible vocals. How have we gone from having the battle of the girl bands to literally one band in the charts? In times of hardship or when we’re emotional is it easier for us to look at a solo artist on a stage singing about all of the emotions that we’re going through at that time compared to looking at a group?
Well there’s a certain element of loveliness of a group of completely different girls all coming together to form a girlie group. We all want to have groups of girl friends to rely on to make us laugh and to give the best hugs when things are rough. Everyone goes through heartbreak in their life and in such different ways - a girl band of different experiences coming together to be there for each other and singing through their emotions would be good to see right now. And let’s face it - there’s nothing better on a Friday and Saturday night when you’re getting ready to go out, turning up the tunes to put you in the mood for some serious dancing with your mates and feeling your heart getting faster with excitement when your favourite song comes on...
